About Matsumoto Dojo
Matsumoto Dojo is the official Manhattan branch of the Renshin-Kai Karate Organization. Since opening our doors in February 2005 under the leadership of Sensei Daisuke Matsumoto, we have grown into one of Manhattan’s most active dojos, offering classes 6 days a week for adults, teens and children.
We offer traditional Japanese full-contact karate in a unique and modern setting. From kata and weapons, to self-defense and bag training, our classes are designed to help you set short-term goals — and reach your long-term goals.
Sensei Daisuke Matsumoto
Founder & Chief Instructor
Sensei Daisuke Matsumoto is a 4th degree black belt. For many years, he trained directly under the world-renowned Soshu Shigeru Oyama. He completed the Uchi-deshi ("Inside Pupil" or live-in, full-time student) program for 5 years and competed in many tournaments before finally opening the WOKO Matsumoto Dojo in 2005. After Soshu's passing in 2017, Sensei Daisuke left World Oyama Karate and created Renshin-Kai Karate.
Sensei Daisuke’s teaching style is very unique, energetic and fun while still honoring the precision of traditional techniques. He aims to pass on to his students the philosophies, spirit and skills that Soshu has passed on to him.
